Your intrepid correspondent flew south, like a migratory duck, to Eugene on Saturday to see if his beloved Ducks could finally beat Oklahoma. It took the better part of 4 hours, 4 turnovers, 4 dubious calls, ("Duck calls"?), and God knows what else, but the Ducks quacked by the Sooners 34-33.
This was probably the wildest finish to a college game I can recall. Oklahoma can bitch about the calls all they want. The fact is, the Sooners, leading 30-20, had a first and goal with about 5 minutes left, and came away with only a field goal. Punch that one in, and the game is over. Let's see, what play should they have called? Oh yeah, how about the guy who ran for 145 yards in the fourth quarter? Do you supposed that's some sort of record? It must be.
Anyway nothing is more dangerous than a cornered, angry Duck, and sure enough, they pulled it out. What a game! And let's hear it for Jonathan Stewart, the next Adrian Peterson.
Now 3-0, the Ducks face a killer 9-game Pac-10 schedule that includes ASU, Cal, and USC on the road.
GO DUCKS!
